Every Irish mammy knows that on the morning of their beautiful babies wedding the best thing they can do is make sure to fill them up for the day ahead on a good old fattening and filling fry up… and you’re not entirely wrong but what I will say is, this is not a regular day, you won’t be stopping at 1 for lunch and before you know it, it’ll be 6pm and you’ll be trying to figure out if your bouquet is edible (I suppose you could throw some olive oil and balsamic vinegar on it).

An easy one for the lads, big feed, then into the trousers, throw the shirt and jacket on and sure the waistcoat will hide the rest. I hear 99% of the ladies reading now saying “aw yeah, easy for him to do, just like picking his suit” and you’re also not wrong; tying yourself into that dress so tight it feels like you’re lungs jump up into your throat is made a lot harder by eating a big greasy fry.

So in the morning, do eat but I recommend spreading it out from when you get up to before you get into your dress. Try high protein foods like bacon, eggs, spinach, and filling yet not fattening foods like porridge, yogurt and fruit. Eating is not the problem, eating foods that will make you feel bloated or will wear off fast, like bread, is what to avoid too much of.

Go with the mantra of small and often. Pack a protein bar …I’m partial to Barebells, who am I kidding, I love them. Makes my day when I have one to keep me going… Use the opportunities like the car ride to the venue to have a sandwich (nothing messy); no doubt your driver (if they’re any good) will crack open the champers and you don’t want an empty stomach.

So there it is, non-bloating, high protein, little and often. Have you any suggestions? Drop your tips in the comments section below.
